Brandon Sproat experienced a difficult start to his season for the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. Stepping onto the mound against the Chicago White Sox, the 25-year-old former Mets prospect conceded a grand slam early in the first inning.
Despite recovering slightly to finish the first, Sproat's outing concluded after three innings. He recorded seven earned runs, allowed six hits, issued four walks, and served up three home runs, leaving him with a 21.00 ERA.
Sproat was a key piece acquired by the Brewers in the offseason trade that saw Freddy Peralta join the Mets. Fellow pitcher Tobias Myers also went to the Mets, while Jett Williams, another top prospect, was sent to Milwaukee and is currently in Triple-A.
Peralta, meanwhile, made his Mets debut on Opening Day, securing a win despite a shaky start. He pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out seven hitters. Mets newcomer Munetaka Murakami also hit his third home run in his first three Major League Baseball contests.
