24 Mar
Summary
- Over 13,900 healthcare positions remain unfilled in Telangana.
- Teacher shortages impact medical college expansion and hiring.
- Recruitment for 7,170 posts is currently in progress.

As of March 23, Telangana's public health system is facing a critical deficit of 13,929 personnel. This includes a wide range of roles from doctors and nurses to paramedical staff. The shortage affects institutions at primary, secondary, and tertiary care levels.
The expansion of medical colleges has increased the need for teaching staff, such as Associate Professors and Professors. However, filling these academic positions has proven difficult due to a limited number of eligible candidates meeting national commission standards.
Currently, the government is undertaking recruitment to fill 7,170 vacant posts. This process is primarily focused on secondary and tertiary care facilities. Once completed, the total number of vacancies is expected to decrease to 6,759.
Overall sanctioned strength is 51,455, with 37,526 personnel currently employed, highlighting the extensive gap the state is working to address.
