NeuEN Green Energy, a collaboration between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Sembcorp Industries, has finalized an agreement to supply 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually to Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL). This strategic deal involves establishing a green hydrogen production plant at NRL's refinery situated in Assam.
The project is supported by a long-term offtake commitment, with commercial operations anticipated to launch in 2028. The facility will incorporate renewable energy sources and advanced storage solutions to guarantee a continuous supply of hydrogen, aiding the refinery in its efforts to decrease carbon emissions.
This development is part of a broader trend where Indian refiners are exploring low-carbon hydrogen alternatives to conventional grey hydrogen for their refining processes. Such moves are crucial for achieving the nation's energy transition objectives and its net-zero ambitions.
