PM Modi Launches ₹5,400 Crore Development Blitz in West Bengal

This past Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a comprehensive development plan for West Bengal, launching a series of infrastructure projects worth ₹5,400 crore. The initiatives span multiple sectors, including oil, gas, power, rail, and road, with the goal of boosting connectivity, clean energy, and industrial growth in the region. Among the key projects, Modi laid the foundation stone for a ₹1,950-crore City Gas Distribution network in Bankura and Purulia districts. The project will supply piped natural gas to households and industries, as well as compressed natural gas at retail outlets, generating employment opportunities in the area. Additionally, the Prime Minister dedicated the ₹1,190-crore Durgapur-Kolkata section of the Durgapur-Haldia Natural Gas Pipeline, which is expected to benefit lakhs of people with a steady and clean supply of natural gas. Continuing the focus on clean energy, Modi also inaugurated Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) systems retrofitted at the Durgapur Steel and Raghunathpur Thermal Power Stations, aimed at curbing industrial emissions and improving air quality. In the rail sector, the Prime Minister inaugurated the doubling of the 36-km Purulia-Kotshila rail line, completed at a cost of over ₹390 crore, further enhancing connectivity in the region.
